By buying a course you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, don't buy — and if something here is unclear, email us before you do.
2. What you're buying
Board to Bow: Craft Real Wooden Bows from Scratch is an online video course on building wooden bows from hardware-store boards using hand tools. It consists of pre-recorded video lessons, downloadable full-size bow patterns, and supporting material.
It is digital content. Nothing physical is shipped. You will need to buy your own wood and tools, which are not included in the price.
3. Price and payment
The price shown on the sales page is the price you pay. There is no VAT to add.
We operate under the Dutch small businesses scheme (kleineondernemersregeling, KOR) and are exempt from charging VAT. Our invoices and receipts carry no VAT and state this exemption. If you are a business customer, this means there is no VAT for you to reclaim on this purchase.
Payment is taken at the time of purchase through our payment processor. We don't store your card details. If your card is charged in a currency other than your own, your bank sets the exchange rate and may add its own fee — that's between you and your bank.
4. Access
Access is granted immediately after successful payment. You'll receive an email with your login details; if it hasn't arrived within a few minutes, check your spam folder and then email us.
You get lifetime access: the course stays available to you for as long as we operate it, including any updates or additions we make to it. We don't charge a subscription and access doesn't expire. If we ever have to retire the course entirely, we'll give you reasonable notice and the opportunity to download the material.
5. Your right of withdrawal, and how it interacts with immediate access
As a consumer in the EU you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase without giving a reason.
Because this course is digital content delivered immediately, that right works differently. At checkout you are asked to confirm two things: that you want access to begin straight away, and that you understand you lose your right of withdrawal once it does. If you tick that box and we give you access, the 14-day right no longer applies.
If you do not want to waive it, don't tick the box — email us instead and we'll arrange your purchase so the withdrawal period runs normally, with access starting after it ends.
None of this reduces any mandatory consumer protection you have under the law of your own country.
6. Our 30-day guarantee
Separately from anything the law requires, we offer a straightforward guarantee: if the course isn't for you, email us within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you in full.
No form, no explanation needed, and we won't ask you to prove you watched it. We'd rather return your money than have you sitting on something you don't use. Refunds go back to the original payment method and normally appear within five to ten working days.
This guarantee is offered voluntarily and is more generous than the statutory minimum. It doesn't replace your legal rights; it sits on top of them.
7. What you may and may not do with the course
You get a personal, non-transferable licence to watch the videos and use the patterns for your own bow-making, including bows you go on to sell.
You may not share your login, re-upload or redistribute the videos, resell the patterns, or use the material to teach your own paid course or workshop. The videos, patterns and written material remain our intellectual property.
If you'd like to use the material for teaching, get in touch — we'd probably say yes on the right terms.
8. Safety, and the limits of what we can promise
Bow-making involves sharp hand tools, power tools, heat, steam, and wood under high tension. Any of these can injure you seriously.
The course shows how we work and explains the reasoning behind each step. It cannot supervise you, inspect your wood, or check your finished bow. You are responsible for working safely, following the instructions for your own tools, and complying with any law where you live about making, owning or shooting a bow.
Protective equipment. Wear eye protection when tillering and when drawing a bow for the first time — that's when a limb is most likely to fail and send splinters. Wear hearing protection when using power tools. Wear a dust mask when rasping or sanding: wood dust is a respiratory irritant, and some bow woods are more than that. Laburnum (Golden Chain), for one, is toxic — don't breathe its dust, don't burn the offcuts indoors, and keep the shavings away from children and animals.
A bow you build yourself can fail. Wood has flaws that aren't always visible, and a limb that breaks under draw can cause serious injury. Never draw a bow you haven't tillered and tested properly. Never stand, or let anyone else stand, where a breaking limb would travel.
Never point or release a drawn bow at a person or an animal, and never shoot in any direction unless you can see what lies beyond your target and know it is safe. An arrow from even a modest wooden bow travels far further than most beginners expect, and a miss doesn't stop at the target.
To the extent the law allows, we accept no liability for injury, property damage, or loss arising from your own bow-making or shooting. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Results
We teach a craft. How your bows turn out depends on your wood, your tools, your patience and your practice. We don't promise a particular standard of result, and nothing on our pages should be read as a guarantee that you'll be able to sell bows or earn money from this.
10. Support
Email [jaap@boltbows.com]. We answer within [X] working days. Support covers the course content and access problems; it isn't a personal coaching service, though we generally answer a good question about a bow if you ask one.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for future purchases. The version in force when you bought is the one that applies to your purchase, so it's worth keeping your receipt email.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you're a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, you keep the mandatory protections of your own country's law, and you may bring proceedings in your own country's courts.
If something has gone wrong, email us first — most things are fixable in a single message.
